Decorating With Re-Used Cabinet Door Fronts

Sooooo simple and yet adorable!  What if I told you these only cost a $1.16 plus tax to make each one?  I'll be moving into a new house soon and am thinking of a decorating scheme for Alicia's room.  Wall art is expensive...no matter where you look.
That's right $1.16 plus tax!  I made decorative wall plaques to decorate Alicia's new bedroom (when I move) out of cabinet door fronts from my Habitat For Humanity Restore.
Before.........

After.........

They are new cabinet door fronts that are only $1 at the Habitat For Humanity Restore and Scrap booking Paper that I bought at Michaels for .16 cents.  I am a bargain shopper and I love to think out of the box.  The door fronts are made from MDF,  that is what most decorative plaques are constructed from.  When you go to your HOMEGOODS or any big box store that sells decorative wall art take a look and you will see that they are MDF.

Here is how I made them.

I laid my decorative paper over the raised part on the cabinet door front in the position as close to perfect as possible and press with my fingers the outline of the shape and then cut it out.  I also tried to use a straight edge and did not like that method so I just stuck to this method of getting the shape cut out to glue on the cabinet.

It's hard to see but if you look close you will see the fold and that is where I cut.  After you cut the paper to the desired size you are ready to glue it to the cabinet door front with Mod Podge.  Have I told you that I love Mod Podge!

After the paper had dried I then coated it with 2 coats of a water based varnish that you can get at your craft store.....letting each coat dry thoroughly before applying another.  I did not use the Mod Podge on the front.  You most certainly can but I wanted to try the varnish on this project.

I then drilled a hole in the back of each plaque to apply a ring hanger to the back of each one.

Here are a few more photos of the finished plaques ....I like how they turned out!

Michaels has so many beautiful scrap booking papers.  These are from the open selections that you can buy by the sheet.  I will be doing other items in the room with this color scheme.  I really think the paper is cute and perfect for a growing toddler.

I am getting so excited about moving and love the aspect of decorating my little granddaughters room for her when she comes to visit.  Have a great evening !

Alicia's Mary Janes

Awww....I had to do this as a post because I found the idea from another blog "The Frugal Life"

This little pair of shoes were a favorite "Mary Jane" that Alicia loved and when she outgrew them I could not just throw them away.  So, I made a few drain holes with the use of a hammer and a paneling nail, put some enriched potting soil and planted some "Hens and Chicks" in them.

I will be doing this with others that are more decorative but these were her favorites. They were a toddler size 5 and she has grown alot since these little shoes....she is in a toddler size 7 right now.

adorable!

I hope they last a long time.  It's a great idea and like I said,  I'll be doing this again.....she has a little pair of the red glittery ones featured in my other blog.

Have a great evening all and let me know if you plant something in your little ones old shoes, I would love to see them.

Angel Baby Bunnies

Angel Baby Bunnies!!    I am thinking about opening a co-op shop at an antique shop that sells so many wonderful things......decisions, decisions.

They are made from 100% cotton Chenille fabric.  They are available in White or Natural Cotton Chenille with either a pink ribbon or a blue ribbon.

They measure 12inches front to back and 8inches from top to bottom with approximately 3 inches in thickness of the body.  To clean :  remove ribbon and gently hand wash and rinse / no bleach, gently squeeze excess water,  fluff to reshape if necessary and lay to dry.

White with Blue Ribbon

Natural with Pink Ribbon
I'll be introducing more choices of fabrics and ribbon as the shop develops....hopefully it will develop? lol!!

Have a great day today and I hope you stop by again.

Decorating a Little Girls Room

Well...I'm getting ready to move soon and I'm not going to make a lot of changes to my decor of the main rooms of my house.  I am however going to re-decorate my two and half year old granddaughters room into more of a transition-style room, meaning it will be a room that she will grow into.  I will not be using any caricatures on the walls or Nickelodeon themes....etc. I don't want to be re-doing her room every two years or so.  Something neutral and yet girly?
I am contemplating the use of a daybed??  Maybe two twin beds, so we have extra room?
I found this beautiful idea at  Elle Decor.  Love the color scheme and this definitely would be a grow into room.
This beauty was found at HGTV Rate My Space
This idea is my favorite thus far.  When I do start to decorate for her room I will take my time and be sure to take in consideration storage needs and play areas.....and so on.  Found so many great ideas to help me design her room at the Rate my Space website.

Great extra storage idea.  And love the use of the decorative boxes.  That could be a great craft idea.
Another Rate My Space room.
Rate My Space room had little dresses hung as part of wall decor....Cute!
Ballerina theme room from Rate My Space.

On the Rate My Space website there were photos of a re-done dresser that I really liked.

Love, Love, Love! great job!
Have a great Sunday!
